Grade Level:
Dates: 2011-2018
Description of activity: Arlington Echo staff and the Watershed Stewards Academy has a rigorous training program which prepared our Outdoor Education Coordinator, Patti Child, to lead our Baltimore Lab School community to action for cleaner water. In just a few short years, Baltimore Lab School Stewards have implemented dozens of in-the-ground projects and motivated hundreds of Baltimore Lab students to make a real difference for our local waterways. The Ben Oaks Master Watershed Stewards offer technical assistance for our Baltimore Lab School students, to take action to improve the health of our waterways.
Baltimore Lab Staff: Patti Child
2011-present.
Ben Oaks Projects. Lynne Rockenbach, Margery Donohue, Patti Child, Dorian Tate.
Ongoing collaboration on all things related to the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. Specifically, Planting a Living Shoreline - Ben Oaks community along the Severn River. Baltimore Lab School students helped to plant and maintain a living shoreline. "We were very lucky to build on a project performed by The Baltimore Lab School students last year. They visited our community shoreline to take water samples and photos. Their analysis played a big role in our decision of where to locate our shoreline restoration project. They also joined us just recently for our final phase of planting for the year. We wholeheartedly support their new Watershed Steward group and their planned activities, as we believe that what they learn through these experiences will strengthen their love for the environment and make them great stewards of clean water throughout the rest of their lives."
