Thanks to a grant from the Chesapeake Bay Trust (funded by sales of Maryland's Treasure of the Chesapeake license plate)and matching funds from Baltimore Lab School, every grade level is able to leave our urban campus to get outside and learn through hands-on experiences, that lead to student-driven action projects.

Loss and Desire was a unit that 13 8th graders and 2 7th graders completed in order to explore the ideas of erosion, subsidence, and sea level rise in the Chesapeake Bay, particularly, how these forces would affect the residents of Smith Island in the future.

Oyster Gardening
BLS high school students planted 20,000 plus oysters on the Fort Carroll Sanctuary Reef.
100% of our High School students participate in Oyster Gardening, in partnership with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Sagamore Development, Oasis Marina and Baltimore Waterfront Partnerships’ oyster gardeners.
17 Storm Drains
BLS middle school students painted and clean 17 community storm drains.
Our middle school students were supported with education and materials from Blue Water Baltimore to paint and clean storm drains every year.
327 Trees
Students and teachers help to plant 327 trees in the Old Goucher Neighborhood.
Baltimore Lab students and staff were trained by the Baltimore Tree Trust to help plant and maintain 327 street trees in our local school neighborhood.
